Living in Cornwall

Located on the UK's southwestern edge, Cornwall has long inspired creative minds. With more than 400 miles of coastline to explore and enjoy, the county attracts people who value a healthy work/life balance.

In the neighbouring towns of Falmouth and Penryn you'll find beaches, spectacular scenery, specialist shops and a whole host of independent bars and restaurants. The area is well known for its year-round events calendar including Falmouth Week, Falmouth Oyster Festival, Penryn Arts Festival and the ever-popular International Sea Shanty Festival. Thanks to the area's famously creative heritage you'll also find galleries, studios and venues, including The Poly – a vibrant cultural centre that hosts theatre and cinema.

Cornwall

Cornwall offers a unique lifestyle with world-renowned beaches and a huge range of outdoor activities. It's one of the most beautiful parts of the country with a great natural and historic environment. The amazing natural landscape offers crashing waves and dramatic cliffs alongside peaceful woodland and riverside walks, plus 12 designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Although Cornwall is located in the far South West, we're well connected. The ever-growing Cornwall Airport Newquay offers regular flights to London Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester and Dublin airports. You can also fly direct to international destinations including Faro, Alicante and Copenhagen.

Things to do in Cornwall

Cornwall offers a complete range of outdoor activities, from walking, bird watching and golf to cycling, horse-riding and fishing right through to kite surfing, diving and coasteering. Or you could simply relax on one of the award-winning beaches!

There are modern art galleries, including the Tate St Ives; theatres including the Hall For Cornwall and the unique Minack Theatre, perched on a cliff edge at Porthcurno. You can enjoy a number of museums, including the National Maritime Museum, Royal Cornwall Museum, and rich historical sites such as Pendennis Castle and Tintagel. Marine attractions include the National Seal Sanctuary and the Blue Reef Aquarium.

The county boasts some amazing gardens, among the best on the British mainland due to Cornwall's unique mild climate. The Eden Project is one of the UK's most popular attractions and is also home to the world's largest indoor rainforest.

From world-class chefs including Nathan Outlaw and Michael Caines to the humble Cornish pasty, foraged feasts, vegan menus and international cuisine, Cornwall's reputation as a food-lover's paradise is well deserved.

As well as having a flourishing creative industries sector, Cornwall has a proud heritage, with towns and villages steeped in history.

"You may leave Cornwall but she will never-ever leave you. You will forever carry her with you, the cliffs, the moors, the fudge, the pasties, the surf that kisses the coves and the endless sky with its breath-taking light. It's Cornwall's gift."

Dawn French, Chancellor
