Graduate Designs for Prestigious Hotel
George Hutchinson graduated BA(Hons) Interior Design in 2019. He is currently working for Richmond International:

Established in 1966, they have refurbished, restored and created interiors for a broad range of clients, from multinational brands to independent owners.’
We spoke with George about his time at Falmouth and what he is doing now:
What did you enjoy most about your time at Falmouth University?
I most enjoyed the community spirit. I loved studying among a tight-knit group of creatives with backgrounds in all the disciplines: graphic design, film production, music, acting, animation……. I could go on and on! Falmouth is a small town so you can easily find yourself living, working and partying with students on all the different courses. I needn’t point out Cornwall’s stunning coastline, come and see that for yourself!
What are you up to now work wise?
I work at Richmond International as a junior designer. Richmond is a hospitality design consultancy designing 5* hotels, luxury resorts and cruise ships worldwide. Based at our Clerkenwell studio in London, I am currently assisting with the spa area specification for a hotel in Egypt.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
If Interior Design keeps you coming back, work out exactly why that might be. You may envision a world with better spaces for people to inhabit. If you do, hold onto that vision! Studying Interiors will allow you to nurture your talent and bring your ideas to life!
A project I have worked on – The Langham Chicago
The Langham Chicago is part of the former IBM tower, the final masterpiece of architect Mies van der Rohe. Richmond respected the modernist architectural style while creating a new luxury hotel, using original materials and added layers of detail. The result is a warm and elegant hotel that honours its past. (See project image below.)
